Adrere Amellal, Egypt
At the foot of the White Mountain in Siwa in Egypt you will find Adrère Amellal Eco-Lodge. You won’t find marble sinks and black-suited staff here and you can’t use the wifi because there is no electricity. This all inclusive eco-lodge is tailored to those who want to getaway, appreciate silence, ponder, and enjoy the nature around them in a desert oasis setting.
The are 40 hand-built rooms which are luxurious but in the sense that you are free from the demands of digital existence. Each room is warmed by small fire pits and sprinkled with bohemian chic design touches, such as Bedouin Carpets, doors crafted from palm trees, and beds of palm fronds.
The food on offer is excellent, despite the remote location, and wherever possible uses produce from the organic garden or Siwan markets, cooked in traditional honey-glazed pots and served by the pool at lunchtimes and in differing locations each night.
Siwa has been inhabited for over 10,000 years and there are hundreds of archaeological sites and ruins to explore in the region. Visit the Roman and Ancient Egyptian ruins and find hieroglyphs that are still visible. Legends say that somewhere around this area is the lost city of Zerzura which is full of the treasures of the desert kings and queens.
Adrere Amellal gives you a rare chance to enjoy the simple things in life: a dip into the pool that blends seamlessly into the sea, dinner under the palm trees, horseback riding through desert dunes at sunset and soaking in the endless stars of the night sky.
