The Gritti Palace, Venice
The Gritti Palace – in an enviable spot on the lower reaches of the Venice Grand Canal – has been a favourite with top-tier travellers since the 15th-century palazzo became a hotel in 1895.
The Gritti's rooms and suites vary greatly in size, and each has its own particular lay-out and decor, but they all share luxury features including antiques, some splendid gallery-standard artwork, and soft furnishings and wall linings in exquisite fabrics from Venetian luxury textile maker Rubelli.
Club del Doge restaurant is the spot to dine, whether you're in the lavishly decorated dining room or out on the romantic canal-side terrace. Enjoy classic Venetian recipes while looking out at the beautiful view of the historical city.
The exquisite spa is in collaboration with Sisley of Paris, where a vast range of treatments is available individually or in suites designed for couples. There are also steam baths and a 24/7 fitness centre.
The Gritti is located on a striking stretch of the Grand Canal, surrounded by luxury boutiques and looking across the water to the church of Santa Maria della Salute.
