Cheval Blanc Randheli, Maldives
Of all the luxurious lairs in the turquoise-fringed, white sanded islands of the Maldives, Cheval Blanc Randheli is the most elegant. It is located in the unspoilt Noonu Atoll, some 40 minutes by seaplane from Malé airport and within easy speed boat reach of some excellent snorkelling and diving spots frequented by spinner dolphins.
The 45 villas, some over water, others lining the beach, brim with bespoke, artistic details under thatched, cathedral-like, roofs. Each villa measures approximately 240sqm and features a sleek swimming pool, hammock, loungers and a huge daybed. Interiors throughout the rooms draw on driftwood and shells, ceramic pieces and petrified wood.
There are five restaurants at Cheval Blanc Randheli, as well as three bars and a wine and cigar cellar with an extensive selection of wines, champagnes and spirits. For a fine dining experience head to 1947 Restaurant, with a tasting menu that offers an abundance of variety. Alternatively, Deelani specialises in Mediterranean fare, White's offers local Maldivian and Diptyque focuses on Japanese and Asian food. The fifth restaurant, La Table de Partage, is a private dining room ideal for special celebrations.
